Shower Screens are a must for any bathroom – they protect your walls from water splashes that can cause mould, mildew and other damage. They are also easy to clean and can add a modern touch to your bathroom design. There are a variety of options to choose from including frameless, framed, folding or simple shower screens in a range of widths and styles.
Frameless glass shower screens are the ultimate choice for a sleek minimalist look. Crafted from thicker safety glass, they have no frames to collect soap scum or water residue and offer an unobstructed view of your tiles, ensuring that your bathroom will stay looking pristine.
With a wide range of colours to choose from, you can match your shower screen to the other fixtures and fittings in your bathroom for an integrated look. Black profiles go well with transparent glass and are a great way to complement chrome, brushed nickel or brass taps. If you prefer a more neutral colour, we also stock shower screens with frosted or textured glass that can add an interesting element to your bathroom style.
If you have limited space in your bathroom, you can opt for a sliding shower screen that fits neatly into the corner of your bath to save on floor space. These are usually fitted with a clear or frosted glass for privacy and can be easily removed for cleaning. Folding shower screens are another option that can provide excellent accessibility and require no extra floor space, but you may want to consider a bracing bar or ceiling to floor bar for added stability with long screen lengths (1000mm+).
Ensure your screen is properly installed and always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines when mounting it. For example, if your screen is a fixed size and you have a tiled wall, the frame must be a minimum of 50mm from the wall to prevent water leaking behind it.
Keep your shower screen in good condition by regularly cleaning it with a glass cleaner or vinegar mix to remove any soap scum and grime. If you see any signs of wear and tear, have the hardware or fixings checked by a professional to ensure they are in good working order.
A properly installed and maintained shower screen can last for years if cared for correctly. It will also increase the value of your property, as buyers will appreciate the ease of maintenance and hygiene compared to a fussy old shower curtain.
It is important to remember that all shower screen widths stated by the manufacturer are ‘nominal sizes’ as they allow for a small amount of movement at each wall profile. We recommend checking the ‘adjustments’ of each profile to see how far you can move the screen before installing it, this will help if your bathroom walls are not perfectly straight or if you are using a different thickness of tile. For example, our Merlyn Ionic 1000mm screen has a ‘adjustment’ of 100mm at each side.
